The Starfish Pet Project will consider adoptive families throughout the Bay Area. We have adopted to families from Sacramento, to Napa, Santa Rosa, Berkeley, Castro Valley, Mill Valley, and Danville, to name a few.
An adoptive family must be willing to travel to us, and we are not able to bring animals to various locations to meet prospective adopters. This is simply because we do not have enough volunteers to transport animals, we do not have the ability to afford additional transportation costs, and we do not want to stress the animals out with additional travel times. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the animal's background and your family's needs. Every animal is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a forever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right pet with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home.
Things to Consider When Selecting the right Pet:
We appreciate you wanting to bring an animal into your home. In order for us to approve an adoption, we need you to submit an adoption application. This can be done here on our website, or, if you need a paper copy, please send us an email so that we can facilitate getting that to you. Thestarfishpetproject@gmail.com
If you plan on visiting us at one of our upcoming adoption events, you will be able to apply in person. However, completing the application online beforehand will save time on the adoption day.
We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity. If you have not yet met our available animals, we will be in touch soon to arrange a time for you to meet them.
Please bring a kitty carrier to your meeting. Even if you are not sure that you will be adopting, it is best to be prepared. We have limited availability to lend or give away any carriers and each cat must be properly secured before leaving rescue.
If you are looking to adopt a dog, you will need to bring a collar and leash along with you before leaving with your new pet.
Once you have chosen the pet of your choice and we have approved the match, You will be asked to sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Once this is completed, your adoption is finalized!
You will be sent home with preliminary information regarding the care of your new pet. Adoption paperwork and medical records will be sent via email.
