Adoption Process

Adopting a pet is 10-20 year committment.

OUR PROCESS

1

Apply

We appreciate you wanting to bring an animal into your home. In order for us to approve an adoption, we need you to submit an adoption application. This can be done here on our website, or, if you need a paper copy, please send us an email so that we can facilitate getting that to you. Thestarfishpetproject@gmail.com

If you plan on visiting us at one of our upcoming adoption events, you will be able to apply in person. However, completing the application online beforehand will save time on the adoption day.

2

Review

We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity. If you have not yet met our available animals, we will be in touch soon to arrange a time for you to meet them.

Please bring a kitty carrier to your meeting. Even if you are not sure that you will be adopting, it is best to be prepared. We have limited availability to lend or give away any carriers and each cat must be properly secured before leaving rescue.

If you are looking to adopt a dog, you will need to bring a collar and leash along with you before leaving with your new pet.

3

Finalizing The Adoption

Once you have chosen the pet of your choice and we have approved the match, You will be asked to sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Once this is completed, your adoption is finalized!

You will be sent home with preliminary information regarding the care of your new pet. Adoption paperwork and medical records will be sent via email.

Additional Information

  • A completed Adoption Application is required before any adoption arrangements can be made.
  • The Starfish Pet Project is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. We will make every effort to schedule your in person meeting in a timely manner. Please be patient with us…the animals need our time too.
  • All animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all shots prior to official adoption.
  • Adoption fees range from $50 to $400, based on the age and health of each individual animal.
  • We do offer Foster To Adopt situations where we allow unspayed/unneutered animals to be chosen and to go home with their future adoptive families on a foster basis. The animal must be returned to us for spay/neuter before the adoption is considered final.
